This is the third time for many of the students to try using the Programmable Battery to create works of art.
This time, the class time was cut in half (45 minutes), and the second time around, we saw how the students’ work deepened and expanded as they became more familiar with the tool. And this time, we could see that the students were making even better use of their experience from the previous two sessions.
First, the students who had reconfirmed the operation of the tools gradually gathered at the materials space where LEGO bricks and other materials were placed.
“Can we use balloons?
“Do you have any Legos that are shorter than this?”
“Oh, it’s already late.
I can hear the kids saying, “Oh, it’s time to go now.
I also hear the teachers saying, “You remember well,
“You remember so well.
“I like the way you keep trying things out.
and “I like the way you keep trying things out,” and other comments from the teachers encouraging the students to try out new activities.
The experience of the past and the knowledge of the students gained from these experiences will support and expand the creation of the artwork.
Furthermore, the time constraint this time may have been, in a positive sense, an opportunity to think about the planning and procedures of how to create a work of art within a limited time frame.
From the teacher at the end of class,
“You have 10 minutes left,” the teacher said,
“Still 10 minutes?,”one of the students said.
It may mean that there are many more challenges to be taken on in 10 minutes.
The students may have been repeating the creative learning spiral of “Imagine” – “Create” – “Play” – “Share” – “Reflect” in the limited time they had to create their works, while accelerating the process.
Once again, we learned from the students and teachers that time constraints are not merely a constraint, but can also promote creative activities by utilizing their past experiences and knowledge.
Thank you again for the opportunity to work with you remotely.
I look forward to our next activity together again.
